Joe Root created history as captain
This was the 24th Test century of Joe Root’s career and with this he has created a new history under the captaincy. Root has now become the captain to score the most centuries in Tests for England. He has now reached close to his 10000 runs in Tests. Root completed his century in 188 balls. This is his fourth century against West Indies and third on West Indies soil. This is Root’s first century in 2022.
Root has surpassed Kevin Pietersen’s record of 24 Test centuries as soon as he scored his 24th Test century. Alastair Cook now has 33 centuries in Tests for England. This is Root’s 13th century as captain and he has surpassed Cook’s 12 Test centuries as captain in this case.
