New Delhi: Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Thursday met Prime Minister Narendra Modi ahead of the state election results. Goa, which has 40-member assembly seats, went to polls in a single phase on February 14. But most exit polls on Monday have predicted a hung mandate in Goa.
In this context, Pramod Sawant’s meeting with PM Modi a day after the exit poll is considered very important. Sources say that Promad Sawant briefed the prime minister about the party’s prospects of retaining power in Goa.
However, after meeting PM Modi, Pramod Sawant himself has said that he discussed the elections with PM Modi. News agency ANI quoted Pramod Sawant as writing, “I met PM Modi today and discussed election. We will form the government with maximum seats… I think once again I will be given a chance to serve.. .(as Chief Minister of Goa). If BJP has said so (his candidature as Chief Minister), it will surely happen. BJP does what it says.”
Goa’s current CM Pramod Sawat said, “As a result, BJP will get more than 20 seats. All exit polls are showing majority for BJP. I am sure that will give majority to BJP and once again BJP regional parties and independents. The central leadership is also talking to them.
