During an argument over money transactions in Mumbai’s Nal Bazar area, a fruit seller was stabbed to death by a customer. He fled from the spot soon after the murder. The crime branch arrested the accused when he was trying to escape from the state.
Vinayak Chauhan of Crime Branch said, “The accused Sohrab Qureshi (25) had an argument with a fruit vendor over money transactions, after which he stabbed the fruit vendor Babuji Qureshi (55) and his son Chhotu. Qureshi (30) was also attacked. Sohrab died on the spot, while Chhotu has been admitted to JJ Hospital for treatment.”
Case registered against the offender under these sections
The officer said that sections 302 (punishment for murder), 307 (attempt to murder), 323 (punishment for voluntarily causing hurt), 504 (insult for breach of peace), 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation), An FIR was registered under sections 201 (causing disappearance of evidence of offense or giving false information to screen the offender) and 37(1).
The accused was arrested by laying a trap
The officer said that the accused had fled from the spot after the incident. The search for the accused was started soon after the case was registered. Later on receiving his information, the crime branch laid a trap and arrested him from Malwani area of Malad. He was trying to flee from Mumbai to Uttar Pradesh at the time of his arrest.
