A pregnant woman waiting to board a train with her husband and three children was allegedly gang-raped by three men near a railway station in Andhra Pradesh’s Bapatla district. The accused beat up the woman’s husband badly. He kept shouting and tried to take the help of Railway Police, but he could not get any help.
The woman is undergoing treatment at the hospital and the three accused, including a juvenile, have been arrested. The incident happened on the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday when the family was going from Guntur to Krishna district in search of work. The family hails from Prakasam district.
Police said on Sunday that the incident took place when a couple, residents of Yeragondapalem in Prakasam district, were on their way to Nagaylanka village in Krishna district to work in the agriculture field and they both got off the train at Repalle railway station on Saturday night. Both slept on the platform on their way to Nagayanka on Sunday morning.
Then three men came there and thrashed the woman’s husband and allegedly gang-raped the woman on the railway platform itself. After that the three men snatched the money from the couple and fled from the spot. The husband tried to take the help of Railway Police by running away, but no officer was found at the station.
Repalle railway station is about 80 km away from the state capital Amaravati. Police said that the victim has been admitted to the government hospital in Repalle for medical examination. Bapatla Superintendent of Police (SP) Vakul Jindal visited the spot. Meanwhile, Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy spoke to the SP of Bapatla and instructed to arrest the accused at the earliest.
