Russia’s attack on Ukraine continues. 10 days after the attack, the Russians claimed on Sunday that Ukraine was close to making a plutonium-based ‘dirty bomb’ nuclear weapon. The Russian media has made this claim citing an unknown source. The source has not provided any evidence. It has been 10 days since Russia attacked Ukraine. In the ongoing fighting for the last 10 days, the Ukrainian army is also giving a befitting reply to stop the Russian army.
TASS, RIA and Interfax news agencies on Sunday quoted a representative of a body in Russia as saying that Ukraine was developing nuclear weapons at the destroyed Chernobyl nuclear power plant that was shut down in 2000. On the other hand, regarding nuclear weapons, Ukraine has been saying that it had no plans to rejoin the nuclear club after giving up its nuclear weapons in 1994 after the breakup of the Soviet Union.
Russian President Vladimir Putin has warned that Ukraine’s country status is in danger. Describing Western sanctions as a “declaration of war” against Russia, he said the ceasefire was broken by terrorist incidents in the occupied port city of Mariupol. Meanwhile, Ukrainian officials claimed on Saturday that Russian forces intensified bombings in Mariupol and were dropping powerful bombs on residential areas of Chernihiv, north of Kyiv.
“What they (Ukrainians) are doing and if they continue, they are calling to question Ukraine’s country status,” Putin said. If this happens then they will be fully responsible for it. He lashed out at Western countries over sanctions being imposed to damage Russia’s economy and weaken its currency.
