The ongoing war between Ukraine and Russia is not taking its name to stop. Lithuania is also frightened by the attack of Russian soldiers. President Gitanas Nauseda on Monday warned Washington’s top diplomat, Antony Blinken, that a failure to stop Russia’s aggression in Ukraine would lead to a global conflict. Along with this, he said that Putin will not stop in Ukraine for this long.
In addition, Nauseda said that the world had an obligation to help Ukrainians in every way possible. Ukraine should be helped in any way possible if the third world war is to be stopped. NATO member Lithuania has sent military aid to Ukraine and welcomed Ukrainian refugees since the Russian attack on February 24.
Blinken was to visit neighboring Latvia and Estonia on Monday and Tuesday. Belarus, which borders Lithuania and Latvia, has allowed Russia to launch an offensive from its territory after keeping its troops stationed there for weeks under the guise of joint military exercises.
Blinken met with Nauseda ahead of talks with the Foreign Minister and Prime Minister of Lithuania.
The top US diplomat had earlier told US embassy staff in Vilnius that Russia’s invasion of Ukraine challenged basic principles designed to maintain peace between the nations. “It’s important that people understand what’s really at stake and it goes well beyond Ukraine, even beyond the Baltic countries, even beyond Europe,” Blinken said.
Blinken promises US support to Moldova
US Secretary of State Antony Blinken on Sunday pledged US support to smaller and western-leaning Moldova, which is facing an influx of refugees from Ukraine. Blinken met with senior officials in Moldova, who are appealing for international aid to handle more than 120,000 refugees from Ukraine. At the same time, Moldovan officials are also seeking security assurances against a possible Russian invasion.
