The BJP may have formed the government in the state in the UP assembly elections, but the party has suffered a setback in the district. The prestige of the BJP, which won all the six seats in the last assembly elections, has been saved only by the victories in Muzaffarnagar and Khatauli seats. The SP-RLD alliance performed brilliantly here, capturing Budhana, Purkaji, Charthawal and Meerapur seats. Of these, one seat has been given to SP and three to RLD.
Muzaffarnagar
In Muzaffarnagar city seat, BJP candidate Kapildev Agrawal won by 111784 votes and defeated RLD alliance candidate Saurabh Swarup by 19684 votes.
Khatauli
BJP’s Vikram Saini won the Khatauli seat for the second time in a row. Vikram Saini defeated RLD’s candidate Rajpal Saini by 16384 votes by taking 100651 votes. Coalition candidate Rajpal Saini got 84305 votes.

Rajpal Balyan of RLD has registered a big victory in Budhana seat. He defeated BJP candidate Umesh Malik by 28310 votes by taking 131093 votes.
Meerapur
In Meerapur seat, RLD alliance candidate Chandan Singh Chouhan took 107421 votes and defeated BJP candidate Prashant Chaudhary by more than 27,000 votes. The BSP candidate could take only 23787 votes here.
Charthaval
In Charthawal assembly seat, Pankaj Malik, the only candidate contesting on SP symbol in the district, registered a landslide victory. Pankaj Malik defeated BJP candidate Sapna Kashyap by 5334 votes by taking 97363 votes.
Purkaji
BJP candidate Pramod Utwal had to face defeat in Purkaji reserved seat. RLD alliance candidate Anil Kumar won by taking 92672 votes and defeated him by 6532 votes. Pramod Utwal got 86140 votes.
Coalition candidates won all three seats in Shamli, Minister Suresh Rana lost
Coalition candidates have won all the three seats in Shamli district. From Thanabhavan seat, where the state sugarcane minister Suresh Rana lost the election, from Kairana seat, Nahid Hasan contested while in jail and made a hat-trick by winning for the third time in a row. His margin of victory was also the highest in the district.
