Chandigarh. Chandigarh in-charge and Ghaziabad MP Atul Garg termed the alliance formed between Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and Congress as “unholy” and raised serious questions on its morality and intentions. He said that this alliance has been done only for personal political interests and not for the development of Chandigarh and the welfare of the people. Garg questioned the policy and ethics of the Congress party, especially after Congress leaders in Delhi repeatedly called AAP and Arvind Kejriwal “thugs” and “thieves” yet joined hands with them in Chandigarh. Pointing to the statements of Rahul Gandhi, Ajay Maken, and Ashok Gehlot, he said that this alliance raises serious doubts on the honesty and consistency of the Congress’ stand.
Atul Garg termed the tenure of outgoing AAP-Congress Mayor Kuldeep Kumar as a complete failure. He said that under his rule the Municipal Corporation was mired in financial crisis, employees did not receive salaries on time, and no major development project was completed. Referring to the conflicts and corruption in the functioning of the municipal corporation during the AAP-Congress rule, Garg described it as a “perfect example of misgovernance”.
Garg termed the decision of AAP-Congress councilors to install fancy lights and exotic flowers at the crematorium at a cost of Rs 7 crore as a waste of public money. He expressed displeasure over the passing of this proposal despite BJP councilors opposing it.
In contrast, Atul Garg highlighted the development work done under the leadership of BJP mayors. He said that BJP completed big projects in Chandigarh like cleaning of waste from Daddu Majra dumping ground, 24×7 water supply project at Mani Majra, Waste-to-Wonder Park, Sensory Park and new community centre. These have improved the beauty and quality of life of Chandigarh.
Garg said, “Will the people of Chandigarh again allow this unholy alliance of AAP and Congress to become mayor? Can parties between which there is bitterness and instability truly work for the development of Chandigarh?”
Atul Garg appealed to the public and regional councilors to reject this “unholy alliance” and support the BJP. He said that BJP’s priority has always been the development of Chandigarh and the welfare of the people. BJP is the right choice to maintain the beauty and identity of Chandigarh.
This statement can give rise to a new debate in Chandigarh politics. Now it has to be seen how the public views this alliance and whether BJP is successful in winning the trust of the public.
