There was a ruckus during the Ganesh idol procession in Ratlam, Madhya Pradesh on Saturday night. People involved in the procession allege that they were carrying the idol while dancing and singing. Meanwhile, someone threw a stone at the idol from the darkness. After this, people involved in the procession became angry. As soon as this news spread, a large number of people gathered at the spot and blocked the road. About 500 people present there demanded strict action against the accused. After this, the police reached the spot and said that action would be taken after investigation.
Still the crowd did not listen and surrounded the Station Road police station. Police registered a case against unknown accused under various sections. Police is investigating the CCTV footage installed near the spot. Local people allege that after the case was registered, someone again threw stones at the people returning. This further infuriated the people and stones were thrown in response. However, the police present on the spot immediately controlled the situation. During this, the police also had to do mild lathicharge.
People told that when the procession was passing through Mochipura in Ratlam, stones were thrown at the Ganesh idol. When the workers of angry Hindu organizations came to know about this, they blocked the road towards Station Road Police Station. However, no video of stone throwing has surfaced. People of angry Hindu organizations reached the police station and raised slogans demanding action against the accused. The police explained to them and registered an FIR against unknown persons.
The incident happened around 9 pm on Saturday night. Around 11 pm, a youth filed an FIR. In this, the youth said that he runs a snacks shop. The people of the committee were carrying Ganesh idol from Khetalpur to Mehndikui Balaji via Hathikhan Mochipura. Women and children were also part of the procession. When their procession reached Mochipura on Hathikhan Road, someone threw a stone at the idol from the darkness. The youth said that the stone passed by him. This could have damaged the idol.
Vishwa Hindu Parishad district minister Gaurav Sharma said that someone has pelted stones. The police should bring the accused to justice. CSP Abhinav Barange said – Ganesh idol was being taken at night. Some of the people involved in the procession say that stones were thrown at them. To verify this, the complainant was sent to the CCTV control room, who has made allegations of stone pelting. Nearby cameras are being scanned. A case has been registered. The situation is under control.
