Delhi Assembly Election: Asaduddin Owaisi’s party on Tuesday announced to give ticket to Delhi riots accused Tahir Hussain for the assembly elections to be held in Delhi next year. Tahir Hussain will be the candidate from Mustafabad assembly seat. Hussain was till now a councilor in Delhi MCD from Aadmi Party. Hussain has been made an accused for the riots in Delhi in 2020, due to which he is currently lodged in Delhi’s Tihar Jail.
Owaisi announced his candidature
AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi announced the candidature of Tahir Hussain in a post on social media platform X. Owaisi wrote, MCD councilor Tahir Hussain joined AIMIM today. He will be our candidate from Mustafabad assembly constituency in the upcoming assembly elections in Delhi. His family members and supporters met me today and attended the party.

Councilor Tahir Hussain from Aam Aadmi Party is an accused in Delhi riots. He has won the election of Delhi Municipal Corporation Councilor on Aam Aadmi Party ticket. However, the party expelled him after his name cropped up in the riots.
Elections may be held in February
The current tenure of Delhi Assembly ends on 23 February 2025. The last assembly elections were held in February 2020, in which the Aam Aadmi Party performed brilliantly, winning 62 out of 70 seats. Whereas the Bharatiya Janata Party had to be satisfied with only 8 seats, the Congress Party did not get any seat.
