Vodafone Idea (VI) has made complete preparations for the launch of 5G services and will be started from Mumbai in March 2025. Subsequently, these services will also be started in cities like Delhi, Bengaluru, Chandigarh and Patna in April. This initiative of VI can give a tough competition to big companies like Reliance Jio and Bharti Airtel.
5G services at cheap rates
VI has planned to introduce its 5G plans at about 15% cheaper rates compared to Jio and Airtel. This is expected to have a new price war in the telecom sector, so that customers will get cheap 5G services.
Dealer commission and investment
According to the report of Jefferies, VI gave its dealers Rs 3,583 crore (8.4% sales) to their dealers in FY 2024, which Rs 3,000 crore (3% sales) of Jio and Rs 6,000 crore to Airtel’s Rs 6,000 crore (Part of 4% cells) more than).
Large deals for 5G
VI has recently made a deal of Rs 30,000 crore ($ 3.6 billion) with Nokia, Ericsson and Samsung. The company is fast working on expanding 4G coverage and setting up a 5G network. In the next three years, VI is planning to set up around 75,000 5G base stations.
Use of spectrum
VI’s 5G service will be launched using a combination of 3.5 GHz (C-band) and 1,800 MHz spectrum. This strategy of the company will help ensure rapid and widespread access to 5G services.

VI CEO Akshay Mundra has indicated that his company will provide 5G services at a lower price than competitors. This can create new competition in the Indian telecom sector and can provide better services to consumers at affordable rates.
