Bihar News Desk Panchayati Raj Department had transferred about 70 thousand water supply schemes to the Public Health Engineering Department (PHED) last year. PHED was supposed to bring water supply to homes by bringing the closed schemes back into operation, but even after a year, many of these schemes are still closed.
Those transferred schemes have not yet been started, where major repairs are required. In many of these places, tap water supply is not possible without new boring. People of such wards and hamlets have to wait for water to come from the tap. According to departmental sources, the depth of boring already done at such places is less. The water level has gone down, making boring useless. The Public Health Engineering Department is now considering getting new borings done in these wards and hamlets. Department Minister Neeraj Kumar Singh Bablu has also given instructions to the officials in this regard.
Speed slow in Saharsa
According to the data, tap connections have reached 100 percent of the houses in five districts of the state. However, its pace is slow in three districts. In this, water connections have reached the lowest in Saharsa, 76.87 percent of the houses. Apart from this, water connections have reached 80.12 percent houses in Madhubani and 85.43 percent houses in Darbhanga. 100% districts include Arwal, Katihar, Khagaria, Madhepura and Shekhpura.
Repair policy made in August
Panchayati Raj Department had transferred 70 thousand 157 water supply schemes to the Public Health Engineering Department in May 2023. At that time many schemes were closed. For their repair, the department has implemented guidelines and repair policy in August 2024. After which the repair of closed or damaged water supply schemes has been expedited.
