The deadlock over seat sharing in the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) alliance in Maharashtra has now ended. Top leaders of MVA held a meeting in Mumbai till late night on Tuesday and indicated that the seat distribution for the assembly elections has been finalized. Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut said that seat sharing will be announced at a press conference on Wednesday. TOI reports that a senior Congress leader has said that Congress will contest on 105 seats, Shiv Sena (UBT) on 95 and NCP (Sharadchandra Pawar) on 84 seats for the 288-member assembly. The remaining seats will be given to smaller parties included in the alliance.

After the rift between Maharashtra Congress President Nana Patole and Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut over seat sharing, senior state Congress leader Balasaheb Thorat on Tuesday first met NCP President Sharad Chandra Pawar and then Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray. Had met. Later, Thorat and other MVA leaders held the meeting again, which lasted for more than five hours, at a luxury hotel. Thorat said AICC Maharashtra in-charge Ramesh Chennithala had asked him to meet Pawar and Thackeray.

Quoting a senior Congress leader, the report said that in Mumbai urban area, Uddhav’s Shiv Sena will contest on 18 seats, while Congress will contest on 14 and NCP (SP) on 2 seats. However, the dispute over three seats in Mumbai – Versova, Bandra East and Byculla – has not been resolved yet as both the Uddhav faction and the Congress have staked claim on them. However, it is expected that a final decision on this too will be taken today. In this, Congress or Sena may have to sacrifice.
