Delhi government allocated Rs 6874 crore for health sector, plan to create 400 wellness centers

The Delhi government has allocated Rs 6,874 crore for the health sector in its 2025-26 budget, which aims to strengthen the infrastructure of healthcare by expanding welfare centers and increasing important care services.

Announcing the budget on Tuesday, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta emphasized the government’s focus on improving the system through modernization, advanced primary care and streamlined medical records.

Presenting a budget of Rs 1 lakh crore with 31.5 percent increase as compared to last year, Gupta said that the government is committed to ensure quality healthcare for all.

The budget includes an allocation of Rs 320 crore for the establishment of 400 health and welfare centers along with “Ayushman Arogya Mandir” to improve access to primary health services.

Gupta also announced an allocation of Rs 10 crore for the Ayushman Digital Mission, which aims to modernize records and create an integrated health care data system for better patient management.

Last year, the AAP government led by the then Finance Minister Atishi had allocated Rs 8,685 crore for the health sector for 2024-25.

Criticizing the performance of the previous administration, Gupta claimed that it failed to provide basic health facilities. He said, “The previous government started 24 projects which proved to be useless. Our goal is to strengthen Delhi’s health system and make it more accessible to all.”

The Chief Minister also announced a plan to accelerate the construction of 10 to 13 new hospitals, for which a particularly Rs 1,000 crore has been allocated. “We are committed to creating a strong, modern healthcare system for all people of Delhi,” Gupta said.

After the party’s victory over the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in the assembly elections held last month, this is the first budget presented by the BJP -led government in Delhi in 26 years.
