New Delhi, Aug 31 (IANS) A massive sit-in was held at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar on Saturday under the aegis of the Kuki Students’ Organisation. People from the Kuki community living in Delhi-NCR also participated in this protest. All the protesters had placards in their hands on which the photo of the Manipur Chief Minister was printed.
A protester said that the situation in Manipur is not hidden from anyone. Violence has been going on between Kuki and Meitei for the last 16 months. A videotape of our Chief Minister N Biren Singh has gone viral, the government should take action against him.
He said that we will give a memorandum to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah regarding our demands. Biren Singh has said in broad daylight that he has instigated the violence. The video has been leaked, the government also has the proof. The law of the country has been violated. He is a blot on the name of BJP. He is a wrong person and he should be punished.
CM Biren Singh does not belong to the Kuki community alone, he is the CM of all communities. We voted for him and made him the CM. But, by supporting the Meitei community in this violence, he has made it clear that he is the CM of the Meitei community.
We have been subjected to many atrocities in the last 16 months. Women of our community were paraded naked and killed.
The protestors said that we do not want the resignation of Chief Minister Biren Singh, but we want action to be taken against him. Along with this, the Kuki community also placed some of its demands before the central government. In which the demand for creating a parallel administration has also been placed.
The memorandum addressed to the Prime Minister said that the recent leak of confidential audio tapes involving Chief Minister N. Biren Singh has raised serious concerns. The contents of the tapes have caused widespread unrest. Till date, more than 176 people have lost their lives, more than 4550 houses have been burnt and vandalised, more than 257 settlements have been destroyed and more than 45,000 people have been displaced within their own country.
The leaked tapes expose the nature of the state government’s involvement in the ongoing conflict in the state, the role of the chief minister himself, key individuals in the state government, Meitei groups and radicalising large sections of the Meitei society. They also contain derogatory comments against the two victim women who were raped and paraded naked.
