The session court of Kolhapur in Maharashtra sent journalist Prashant Koratkar, accused of making derogatory remarks about the 17th century Maratha ruler Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and his son Chhatrapati Sambhaji, to police custody till 28 March on Tuesday.
Journalist Koratkar, a resident of Nagpur, was arrested from Telangana on Monday.
A case was registered against Koratkar on 26 February. The case was registered on the basis of the ‘audio’ of the conversation between Koratkar and Kolhapur historian Indrajit Rawat. An FIR was lodged against them for promoting hatred or enmity between groups against them under the Indian Code of Justice.
In Kolhapur, Additional Sessions Judge DV Kashyap dismissed Koratkar’s anticipatory bail plea on 18 March.
Koratkar had claimed in the petition that his phone and ‘audio’ were tampered with. He also said that he has publicly apologized.
