According to the report of news agency Xinhua, Home Ministry spokesperson Rishiram Tiwari said in a statement on Saturday that 69 people are missing. The maximum damage has been caused in Kathmandu Valley. 34 people have died here.
Tiwari has also claimed that the security forces have saved more than 3 thousand people. The government has decided to provide free treatment to the injured and start rehabilitation work as soon as possible for those who lost their homes in this disaster.
Many highways and bridges were also destroyed
He further said that many highways and bridges have also been destroyed in different parts of the country. Cleaning the highways is the first priority of the government.
Nepal Police said that due to the natural disaster, traffic on almost all highways, including those connecting Kathmandu with the rest of the country, is at a standstill. All entry roads to Kathmandu have been blocked due to landslides.
Nepal’s Ministry of Education, Science and Technology has meanwhile requested all state governments to close schools for three days from Sunday and postpone all university-level examinations scheduled till Tuesday.
Nepal has received above average rainfall during the monsoon this year. Some parts of Kathmandu have been flooded due to swollen rivers. Many houses have been submerged in water and people have been forced to move to the upper floors.
A large area of the southern part of the city was mostly flooded and a military helicopter was used to pick up four people. These people were unable to leave their homes. Electricity supply and Internet service remained disrupted for a long time in many areas of Kathmandu.
