New Delhi . The country has produced 1,132 lakh metric tonnes (LMT) wheat in the Rabi season of 2024 and adequate food grains are available in the country. This information was given by the government.
To prevent food safety management and hoarding, the Center has implemented stock limits on wheat for traders/wholesalers, retailers and processors in all states and union territories.
To keep the price of wheat within a limit, the government has revised the limit of stock of wheat, which is applicable till March 31, 2025.
The Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution said, “All institutions with wheat stock are required to register on the wheat stock limit portal and will have to update their stock on this portal every Friday.”
If in any case the stock institutions have more stock than the limit fixed, then they will have to do the stock according to the fixed limit within 15 days of notification.
The Department of Food and Public Distribution is keeping a close watch on the stock status of wheat to control prices in the country and ensure easy availability.
At the beginning of the month, the government had said that so far in the current season, the total agricultural sector sown in the country under various Rabi crops has crossed 661.03 lakh hectare from 651.42 lakh hectares in the same period last year.
The area under sowing of wheat has increased from 318.33 lakh hectare to 324.38 lakh hectare in the same period last year, resulting in the production of grains to increase in this season.
Food inflation is expected to decrease in the coming times due to the possibility of overcrowding. At the same time, due to good monsoon, minimum support price and adequate supply of input, the rural economy can also get support.
