Ranchi. The campaign to stop the use of illegal money and resources in the assembly elections in Jharkhand has intensified. With the implementation of the Model Code of Conduct, illegal materials and cash worth Rs 37 lakh have been seized within 48 hours. This information has been given officially by the office of the Chief Electoral Officer of Jharkhand.
On Thursday, during checking of vehicles at Kesarpur check post under Galudih police station area of East Singhbhum district, Rs 5 lakh 85 thousand was seized from three pickup vans. All three vehicles were coming from West Bengal. The investigation team at the check post here included Magistrate Kunal Kumar and ASI Jitendra Kumar.
Earlier on Wednesday, during the checking of vehicles on GT Road in Chauparan police station area of Hazaribagh district, Rs 6 lakh 22 thousand were recovered from the bag of Kamlesh Kumar Sharma, a resident of Gaya district of Bihar, traveling on a bus and in Kovali police station area of West Singhbhum district, Jharkhand. Police had seized Rs 1 lakh 38 thousand in cash from two people riding on a bike at the check post on the Odisha border.
During the period when the Model Code of Conduct is in force, there is a ban on carrying more than Rs 50,000 in cash without valid documents. On the instructions of the Election Commission, the Income Tax Department has prepared a special strategy to stop the flow of illegal or black money in Jharkhand during the illegal Lok Sabha elections. The department has formed special squads to take immediate action on information regarding illegal movement of cash.
A 24-hour control room has been set up at the headquarters in Ranchi. Quick response team will be in immediate action mode on information of more than one million cash. Action will be taken after investigating the source of the cash and its authenticity. The concerned person will have to tell from where the amount was received, where it is being taken and for what purpose. If clear and valid information is not received, the money will be confiscated.
In the information issued by the Additional Director of Income Tax (Investigation) of the state, it has been said that any person can give information regarding illegal or black money at any time on the control room’s toll free number 18003455018 and WhatsApp number 9693510277. The names and addresses of those giving information will be kept secret.
