After the rape and murder of a trainee doctor in Kolkata, the mood of not only Kolkata but the entire country has changed. In Delhi itself, doctors have come out of hospitals and onto the streets demanding justice, hospitals are locked and helpless patients are wandering around for treatment. Even the most serious cancer, heart and kidney patients who reach AIIMS, Safdarjung, RML, Delhi State Cancer Institute are not getting treatment. However, this anger is not going to stop yet. If doctors are to be believed, an even bigger strike is going to take place on 17th August.
Strike announced in all big and small hospitals on 17th August

After the RDA and all the doctors’ organizations across the country went on strike, the hooliganism that took place in Kolkata on the night of 15 August has added fuel to the fire. This is the reason why the Indian Medical Association has also announced a nationwide strike on 17 August. Due to which not only the government resident doctors across the country but also private doctors, doctors working in primary health care centers, community health care centers and district hospitals, doctors of every small and big hospital are expected to be on strike. Not only this, on 16 August, along with the doctors, nursing unions have also started a strike. Nursing unions will also be on strike on Saturday.

Patients are facing lot of problems

Patients waited from morning till evening for treatment at AIIMS and Safdarjung Hospital.
IMA, FORDA, FEMA, National Medicos Organization, Faculty Associations, and Resident Doctors Associations across the country have announced a complete shutdown of OPD services, operation theatres, radiological tests, elective services, and admission of patients on August 17. Some associations have also suggested shutting down emergency services. In such a situation, if emergency services are also shut down, then emergency cases and patients may suffer a great loss.
Doctors reached Nirman Bhawan from hospitals
Doctors from all the hospitals of Delhi have reached Nirman Bhawan today protesting. Thousands of doctors who reached Nirman Bhawan after marching are continuously demanding justice and demanding immediate hanging of the culprits in the trainee doctor case as well as implementation of Central Protection Act for doctors and people associated with the medical field across the country.
Patients wandering in hospitals
Many patients who came to hospitals for treatment on 14th August were told that there is a strike of doctors, so they should come on 16th August but even today the patients did not get treatment in the hospitals. Rather they found the OPDs locked. Not only this, the patients who had taken appointments for tests or consultation with doctors for a long time and had come to AIIMS, Safdarjung, RML, Hedgewar, Cancer Institute had to return disappointed.
