Belagavi, The ‘New Satyagraha Resolution’ was passed on Thursday in the Congress Working Committee meeting held in Belagavi, Karnataka. In this proposal, he criticized Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s statement on Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar. Besides, the 75th year of Republic Day was also discussed.
In the ‘Nav Satyagraha Resolution’ it was said that Mahatma Gandhi had become the President of the Congress in the 39th session of the Indian National Congress. CWC met today in Belagavi, Karnataka to commemorate the 100th anniversary of that historic convention. As the country recently celebrated the 75th anniversary of the adoption of our Constitution, it is also appropriate that we pay tribute to Bapu. Mahatma Gandhi’s statement of 19 November 1939 was the pillar of the establishment of the Constituent Assembly seven years later.
It further said, “It is unfortunate that just a month later, as we enter the 75th year of our Republic, the Constitution is facing its gravest threat ever. Jawaharlal Nehru had said that There is no doubt that no one took more responsibility for the making of the Constitution than Dr. Ambedkar. The insult to Babasaheb Ambedkar by the Union Home Minister is an example of the decades-old conspiracy of the RSS-BJP to weaken the Constitution. This is the latest example of the project. CWC reiterates its demand for the resignation of the Union Home Minister as well as an apology to the country.”
It was said that CWC is extremely concerned about the continuous decline in our democracy. Institutions like the judiciary, Election Commission and media have been politicized through pressure from the executive. The credibility of Parliament has been destroyed. The entire country saw the manner in which the proceedings were disrupted by the ruling party in the recently concluded winter session of 2024. The federal structure of the Constitution is under continuous attack. It is particularly threatened by the ‘One Nation, One Election’ Bill imposed by the Central Government.
The CWC condemns the Centre’s amendments to the Conduct of Elections Rules, 1961, on the recommendation of the Election Commission of India, which prevent public access to critical parts of election documents. This undermines the principles of transparency and accountability that are the cornerstone of free and fair elections. We have challenged these amendments in the Supreme Court. The way elections have been conducted, especially in Haryana and Maharashtra, has already destroyed the integrity of the electoral process.
Manipur violence was also mentioned in the Congress Working Committee meeting. It said, “The CWC is deeply distressed by the rise in state-sponsored communal and caste hatred. Manipur, which has been burning in the fire of violence since 2023, is facing the apathy of Prime Minister Modi and his government. After the outbreak of violence in May 2023 The Prime Minister has not visited this troubled state and deliberately instigated communal tension in Sambhal and other places for the political benefit of RSS. The Act, 1991, to which the Indian National Congress is fully committed, has also come under unnecessary debate.”
The CWC also strongly condemned how peaceful protesters were treated by the Congress party in BJP-ruled states like Assam and Uttar Pradesh. Many Congress workers lost their lives. This is completely unacceptable and reflects the anti-democratic mentality of the BJP.
The CWC has taken into consideration the announcement by the External Affairs Minister regarding disengagement between Indian and Chinese troops in Eastern Ladakh. This is well short of India’s stated target of restoring pre-April 2020 status and represents the country’s biggest regional shock in decades. The CWC has reiterated its demand that the government take the opposition into confidence and allow a comprehensive discussion in Parliament regarding the LAC situation.
The statement said the CWC expresses concern over the recent increase in attacks on religious minorities in Bangladesh. We strongly urge the Central Government to work with the Government of Bangladesh to ensure their safety and well-being.
