The deceased children have been identified as Kartik Chaurasia (15) and Aastha alias Gunnu (9). Mother Shannu Chaurasia (40) has been admitted to AIIMS, where her condition remains critical. Police suspect that after strangulating the children, Shyamji attacked their mother with some heavy object. Later, thinking that all three were dead, he locked the house and left.

It is suspected that the murder was committed on Thursday or Friday night. District Police Deputy Commissioner Apoorva Gupta says that only the post-mortem report will reveal the time of the murder. According to the police, Shyamji Chaurasia, originally a resident of Ahina village, Post Mandhata, Pratapgarh, UP, lived with his family in Street No. 6, Shashi Garden, Pandav Nagar in Delhi. Apart from wife Shannu Chaurasia, there were two children Karthik and daughter Aastha in the family. Shyamji used to run a tea shop near Mayur Vihar Phase-1.
Karthik was a Class 9 student in a nearby government school and Aastha was a Class 6 student. Shyamji’s four other brothers live with their families in Pandav Nagar and Shashi Garden. Relative Amritlal told that the family had been trying to contact Shyam since Friday morning. Shannu’s mobile was switched off, while Shyamji’s call was not picking up. Meanwhile, in the evening, Shyamji’s younger brother Ramji reached his brother’s flat on the second floor. It was locked from outside. Brother returned after seeing the lock. Same thing happened on Saturday morning also. Ramji returned after seeing the lock, but he felt a foul smell coming from the house.
When Ramji reached home again in the afternoon when something went wrong, the foul smell was increasing. The case has been reported to police The police reached the spot, broke the lock of the main gate and entered inside. Lights and fans were working inside. The dead bodies of Karthik and Aastha were lying in a room.
