Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Monday invited National Conference leader Omar Abdullah to take oath as the first Chief Minister of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir on October 18. This comes a day after the removal of President’s rule in Jammu and Kashmir.
In a letter to Abdullah, Sinha said, “I have received a letter dated October 11, 2024 from Dr. Farooq Abdullah, President of Jammu and Kashmir National Conference, informing me that you have been unanimously elected as the leader of the legislature party.”
He said he also met Jammu and Kashmir Congress chief Tariq Hameed Karra, CPI(M) secretary G N Malik, AAP national secretary Pankaj Kumar Gupta and independent MLAs Pyare Lal Sharma, Satish Sharma, Mohammad Akram, Rameshwar Singh and Muzaffar Iqbal Khan. A letter has been received in which he has given his support to NC.
The LG has said in the letter, “I am happy to invite you to form and lead the Government of Jammu and Kashmir. Sinha has said, “As decided separately, I am pleased to invite you and your Council of Ministers.” “I will administer the oath of office and secrecy to those recommended by you for joining as members on October 16, 2024 at 11:30 am at SKICC, Srinagar,” he said.
“I take this opportunity to wish you a highly productive tenure and success in your endeavors in the best interest of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.” The LG’s messenger handed over the letter to Abdullah and informed him about the date and time of the swearing-in ceremony. “Pleased to meet Manoj Sinha ji, Principal Secretary, LG. He handed over a letter from @OfficeOfLGJandK inviting me to form the next government in J&K,” Abdullah said in a post on X.
