Mumbai, . The supply of medicines has been completely stopped in 27 BMC hospitals of the country’s financial capital Mumbai from Monday. The matter of concern is that only three-four days’ stock is left, after which patients may have to face shortage of medicines.
Abhay Pandey, president of All Food and Drug License Holders Foundation, said that BMC has outstanding dues of about Rs 120 crore from 48 suppliers, which has not been paid yet. He said that the supply of medicines will remain stopped until BMC clears all the dues.
Abhay Pandey told , “As president of our organization All Foods and Drugs License Holders Foundation, I would like to state that our suppliers owe BMC Rs 120 crore, which includes EMD (Earnest Money Deposit) and Vigilance Deposit. Apart from this, our regular supply money is pending for the last six months. That is why we all held a meeting and decided that when “Until we get our dues, we will stop the supply of medicines to 27 BMC hospitals.”
He said, “There are more than 150 members of our organization who supply medicines to BMC, out of which there are more than 48 people whose huge dues are pending for a long time. These include many hospitals in Bandra and Kurla. has assured us that the payment process has been initiated and the outstanding amount will be paid within the next one week.”
He said, “We have asked BMC to give us a written assurance so that we can consider it. BMC told us that if the payment process has started then we can resume our supply. We are positive. and hope that BMC will pay us as soon as possible, so that we can resume our supplies.”
He said that at present the supply is completely stopped. We do not want any patient to face difficulty. The priority of our organization has always been the well-being of the patients, but when payments are not made, we have to take this tough decision. Our money is stuck for the last four years and payments are pending for three to six months even for regular supplies. We have tried at various levels, but when the problem was not resolved, this step had to be taken. We hope to receive payment soon. If this situation continues then we will explore other options. We want to ensure that patients do not miss any medicines, and receive the money owed to us, so that we can resume our supplies.
