There is an atmosphere of tension in Bangladesh since the change of power. Three days ago, the advisor of the Home Ministry of Bangladesh had asked his soldiers to increase strictness on the border and not to turn their backs. Then it seemed that perhaps they were trying to incite violence against India. But in the meantime, an attempt was made to give the message of friendship by feeding sweets. On the occasion of Jashn-e-Azadi, the soldiers of both the countries fed sweets to each other and celebrated. The special thing is that for the first time, the women unit of BSF posted on the West Bengal border fed the women personnel of BGB of Bangladesh and wished them. This program was organized at the Gede border post of BSF in Nadia district.
There is a high alert on the international border since the fall of the Sheikh Hasina government. But on the occasion of Independence Day, both forces exchanged sweets. The northern part of West Bengal comes under the Eastern Command, which includes Darjeeling, Jalpaiguri, Dinajpur areas. This dialogue between BSF and Border Guard Bangladesh is also important because a day earlier, Bangladesh Home Ministry Advisor Brigadier General (Retired) M Shakhawat Hussain had told the soldiers of Border Guard Bangladesh that if the situation arises to fight, then fight with strength on the border.
What did you say then…
Without naming India, he said that Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) is fed up of retreating from the border. Our people are attacked on the border and BGB is forced to hold flag meetings. I have given strict instructions to BGB not to turn their back and run away. Let us tell you that in the last 10 days, 100 flag meetings have taken place between BSF and Border Guard Bangladesh. But today’s meeting is more important, in which everyone was seen together. According to the set protocol and international standards, communication between BSF and Border Guard Bangladesh takes place in this manner continuously.
The best news came from Nadia
Even better news came from West Bengal’s Nadia district. Here, for the first time, women soldiers of the 32nd battalion of BSF fed sweets to the soldiers of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB). All these soldiers are of constable rank and are deployed in the area to protect the international border in Nadia district. Battalion commandant Sujeet Kumar said, ‘Giving greetings and distributing sweets is a symbol of mutual respect and harmony between the two border forces. This is a tradition which has been followed for the first time by women personnel.
