Islamabad. The Tarkham border between Pakistan and Afghanistan is going to open on Tuesday. The border crossing remained closed for about a month due to the tension between the two countries over the construction work being done by the Afghan forces near the disputed border.
According to media reports, on Monday, the second round of ceasefire talks between the two sides took place. During this period, it was decided to open the Tarkham trade route closed on 21 February for all types of movement.
On this first March 4, the situation on the Torkham border deteriorated when negotiations to reopen the crossing, resulting in firing between Pakistani security forces and Afghan Taliban fighters. Many armed forces personnel and citizens have died in violent clashes.
One of the most important crossings between Afghanistan and Pakistan is the highest trade and movement between the two countries.
Pakistani officials said that all kinds of trades including transit trades were stalled during the border closed for 24 days. On the condition of anonymity, a Pakistani official told ‘The Express Tribune’ that the national treasure lost a total of $ 72 million due to the closure of the border.
This struggle has given a huge blow to traders on both sides of the border, who have lost millions of dollars. Hundreds of passengers and patients, thousands of cargo trucks are stranded on both sides of the Torkham crossing due to the deadlock.
Afghan Media Tolo News quoted Afghan businessman Jalmai Azimi as saying, “The meeting between the two sides was held on Monday. The decisions taken were positive and there is a possibility that the crossing will open again today or tomorrow.”
