The Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly on Thursday passed a resolution against the Waqf Amendment Bill proposed by the Central Government. The proposal was introduced by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin. CM Stalin has alleged that the sentiments of Muslims are hurting due to this bill. On the other hand, BJP MLA Vanthi Srinivasan has opposed the proposal against the Waqf Amendment Bill in the Assembly. At the same time, Tamil Nadu’s opposition party AIADMK has accused Chief Minister MK Stalin of doing vote bank politics.

Did CM MK Stalin say?

While presenting a proposal against the Waqf Amendment Bill proposed by the Central Government in the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly, State CM MK Stalin said- “The Central Government is trying to amend the Waqf Bill, which will hinder the powers of the Waqf Board. This is hurting the sentiments of Muslims and the central government does not care about it.”

What was said in the proposal?

The proposal presented by CM MK Stalin states- “People in India are living with religious harmony. The Constitution has given all the people the right to follow their religion. At the same time, elected governments have the right to protect it. Assembly unanimously emphasizes that the Central Government should withdraw the Waqf Amendment Bill 2024 for the Waqf Arts 1995.

What did AIADMK say?

On passing a resolution against the Waqf Amendment Bill in the Assembly by the Tamil Nadu government, AIADMK national spokesperson Kovai Satyan has issued a statement. He said- “It seems that DMK religion is in a hurry to set a Narrative on the basis of language.

Why has the government brought Waqf Bill?

The Waqf (Amendment) Bill 2024, Waqf Act 1995 has been introduced with the aim of improving. The government says that by amending the Waqf Board Act, the method of registration of Waqf is to be streamlined through the Central Portal and Database. It states that before registering any property as Waqf property, action will be taken as per the revenue laws with appropriate notice to all the concerned. The government says that the aim behind the Amendment Bill is to increase accountability and transparency in the functioning of Waqf boards. Also, compulsory participation of women is to be ensured.
