Rajya Sabha elections on 12 seats, BJP can win 10, how will the equation of the House change?

New Delhi: Rajya Sabha is a place where the ruling party needs to have a majority to make any law of the country. The party in power always wants to remain strong in the Rajya Sabha. In this Rajya Sabha election too, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is waiting for the same. Let us tell you that the Election Commission said on Wednesday that elections will be held on September 3 for 12 vacant Rajya Sabha seats of nine states. After this announcement, all the parties have started preparing to strengthen themselves.

According to a TOI report, out of these 12 seats, 10 are expected to go to the BJP, taking the party’s tally in the Upper House to 97. Ten Rajya Sabha seats fell vacant after sitting members, including Union ministers Piyush Goyal, Sarbananda Sonowal and Jyotiraditya Scindia, were elected as Lok Sabha members.

Which seat became vacant where?
By-elections will also be held for two Rajya Sabha seats in Telangana and Odisha. In Telangana, recently K. Keshava Rao resigned from the membership of the House after leaving the Bharat Rashtra Samiti (BRS) and joining the Congress, while Biju Janata Dal (BJD) MP Mamta Mohanta resigned from the Rajya Sabha seat and primary membership of the party. Apart from Goyal, Sonowal and Scindia, other Rajya Sabha members who won the Lok Sabha elections include Kamakhya Prasad Tasa (Bharatiya Janata Party), Misa Bharti (RJD Das), Vivek Thakur (BJP), Deepender Singh Hooda (Congress), Udayanraje Bhosale (BJP), KC Venugopal (Congress) and Biplab Kumar Deb (BJP).

How will BJP’s point be made
It is known that separate elections will be held for each Rajya Sabha seat on September 3 and the results will be declared on the same day. But now the question is how will BJP win this election. 7 seats of BJP have fallen vacant in the by-election. It is believed that 10 of these seats will go to BJP’s account. Both the seats of BJP MPs have fallen vacant from Assam and since there is a BJP government in the state, both the seats will go to it. Talking about Bihar, one seat each of RJD and BJP has fallen vacant here. Since the BJP alliance is in power in the state, both the seats can go to it.

In Haryana, one seat of Congress has fallen vacant but due to BJP being in power in the state, it will get the seat. In Madhya Pradesh, one seat of BJP has fallen vacant and it will remain with the ruling BJP. In Maharashtra, two seats of BJP have fallen vacant, both will remain with BJP even after the coalition government. In Rajasthan, one seat of Congress has fallen vacant and it will go to the account of the ruling BJP. In Tripura too, one seat has fallen vacant and it will go to the ruling BJP. In Odisha too, the vacant seat of BJD will now go to BJP.

How will the equation of the House change
The actual strength of the Upper House after the election results will be 237, taking the majority figure to 119. Since the BJP is expected to win 10 seats, the NDA’s total strength will rise to 112. Though the alliance will still be far from the majority figure, its strength will increase to 120 with the support of six nominated members and two independents.
