Rakesh Pal: When drugs and gold worth crores of rupees were seized, where was the DG of Indian Coast Guard a student?

Rakesh Pal: Rakesh Pal became the 25th Director General of the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) in July 2023. Rakesh Pal achieved many achievements in his three-decade career. He also served in important positions like Flag Officer, Commander. He served in the Indian Coast Guard for about 35 years, including Commander Coast Guard Region (North West), Gandhinagar, Deputy Director General (Policy and Planning) and Additional Director General Coast Guard at Coast Guard Headquarters, New Delhi.

Where did you get your training from
Rakesh Pal was an alumnus of the Indian Naval Academy. He completed his training from there. He joined the Indian Coast Guard in January 1989. He received gunnery and weapons training at the Indian Naval School Dronacharya, Kochi. Apart from this, he also did an electro-optics fire control solution course from the United Kingdom. Due to receiving various types of training, he became the first gunner of the ICG.

In which positions did you work?
Indian Coast Guard DG Rakesh Pal held many important positions. This was the reason that he had a lot of sea experience. He had commanded all categories of ICG ships. This included ships like ICGS Samarth, ICGS Vijit, ICGS Sucheta Kriplani, ICGS Ahilyabai and ICGS C-03. Apart from this, Rakesh Pal also commanded two coast guard bases in Gujarat – Okha and Vadinar. This was the reason why Rakesh Pal was awarded the Tatrakshak Medal in the year 2013 and the President’s Tatrakshak Medal in the year 2018 for his outstanding service.

Rakesh Pal was a music lover
Information given on the website of Indian Coast Guard states that Rakesh Pal loved music and also had a keen interest in sports. He was married to Deepa Pal. Rakesh Pal has two daughters named Snehal and Tarushi.

Several operations were done
Many big operations were conducted under the supervision of Rakesh Pal. In one operation, drugs and gold worth crores of rupees were seized under his leadership. Apart from this, the rescue operation of sailors in a severe cyclone was also much talked about. Joint operations with the Foreign Coast Guard also took place during his tenure. He is also known for many operations on many other occasions.
