A case of extortion has come to light in the name of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s nephew and Trinamool Congress MP Abhishek Banerjee. According to the report, a complaint has been filed against Bengal Minister and OSD of Kolkata Mayor Firhad Hakim regarding this. This FIR has been lodged by the office of TMC MP. However, Firhad claims that he had no knowledge about it. The mayor says that he has nothing to do with this extortion case.
An FIR has been registered against Firhad Hakim’s OSD Kalicharan Banerjee at Shakespeare Sarani Police Station in Kolkata. It was said that money was being collected from people in the name of providing benefits of government schemes. When the Mayor was asked about this, he said, ‘I have no information about this. I have heard this from the media. If there was any such complaint then you could have told me. I myself would have arranged for a departmental inquiry into it. If there is a complaint in the name of some person, which has no basis, then how can I remove it?
HC angry over threat gang case in Medical University
On the other hand, a hearing was held today in the Calcutta High Court on the allegations of presence of ‘intimidation gang’ in the medical colleges of West Bengal. The court said that if there is even a little truth in this then it is a serious issue. Directed the state government to file an affidavit on the allegations made in the PIL. The petitioners have claimed that they have received information from various reports about sale of answers to examinations, corruption, sexual harassment and exploitation of medical students and junior doctors in medical colleges and hospitals of the state. The high court said the petitioners also referred to the ‘North Bengal lobby’ and believed that it exerts pressure for transfers and promotions.
