Odisha News Desk!! Once again a cyclonic storm is coming to wreak havoc in the country. During this period, there will be high waves in the sea and strong winds, due to which there is a possibility of heavy rain in many states. India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an alert regarding this. The government administration has also made preparations to deal with the cyclonic storm. All schools and colleges have been closed till October 26 in 7 districts of West Bengal and many trains will also remain cancelled.
The depression over east-central Bay of Bengal is moving west-northwestwards at a speed of 4 kmph and is likely to develop into a cyclonic storm on October 23. After this, by the morning of October 24, it is likely to move in a north-westerly direction over the North-West Bay of Bengal and turn into a severe cyclonic storm. According to IMD, there is a possibility of a cyclonic storm on the coasts of North Odisha and West Bengal between Puri and Sagar Islands from the night of 24th October to the morning of 25th October. At the time of landslide, winds will blow at a speed of 100-120 km and high waves will arise in the sea. After this it will cross the coast as a severe cyclonic storm.
The Meteorological Department has issued a warning regarding heavy rain. Very heavy rain over Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khordha districts of Odisha on 23 October and Balasore, Mayurbhanj, Bhadrak, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur Kendujhar, Jajpur, Cuttack, Dhenkanal, Khorada and Puri districts of Odisha on 24-25 October. There is a possibility that it will happen. South and North 24 Parganas, East and West Medinipur, Jhargram, Howrah, Hooghly, Kolkata and Bankura districts of Ganga coastal region of West Bengal will receive heavy rain on 24-25.
Cyclone Dana will hit on 24-25 October

From the night of 24th October to the morning of 25th October, there will be high waves in the sea and the weather will be bad. The cyclonic storm will wreak havoc till the afternoon of October 25 and then gradually subside. Fishermen have also been advised not to go near the beaches during October 23 to 25.

According to IMD, roofs of houses may be blown away due to the cyclonic storm in the affected districts of West Bengal and Odisha. Electric poles may be uprooted and trees may fall. Power and communication lines may be damaged. Unpaved roads may collapse and flooding may occur at many places. Dilapidated houses may collapse. There will also be traffic jams due to water filling the roads.
