New Delhi, September 4 (IANS) The easiest way to stay fit is to walk. Walking, jogging and running are not new words for us, but are you aware of the benefits of ‘running’? This word may be new to you, but it is an important part of your daily routine. Every one of us does this physical exercise while going out, going to office and school-college.

Now you must be wondering what is the meaning of the word ‘rucking’? Rucking is a physical exercise. In simple words, walking with heavy weight is called ‘rucking’. Usually, it is a part of our daily routine.

Be it children’s school bags, office bags of working people or bringing rations home. We all are unknowingly doing the physical exercise of ‘rucking’, because just walking is not as beneficial as walking with heavy weights. This is a workout that you can do anywhere. Now its popularity is also increasing. According to ‘Peloton Report: Spring Wellness Trends’, in a survey related to this, 29 percent of the people say that they have tried rucking and they got more benefits from it than normal walking.

Now you might be wondering how something that you do in your daily life became a technical term or a terminology? The history of rucking is linked to military training.

In fact, the word ‘ruck’ or ‘rucksack’ means backpack. Before World War I, soldiers carried all their belongings in bundles of clothes and sticks, which was not an ideal arrangement. However, in the early 20th century, soldiers were trained to carry things on their backs in rucksacks.

Rucking is still used in military training today, but it is now becoming popular among civilians as well. It provides a simple and cost-effective option to improve fitness and strength. It is a low-cost exercise that does not require expensive equipment or gym memberships, and can be done individually or in groups.

The best thing about rucking is that it requires very little equipment. All you need is a backpack, some heavy items (like books, laptop or whatever else you can find easily weighty) and off you go for a long walk.

However, if we adopt it apart from our daily life, then it will require a proper time-table. It is advisable to start rucking with a light load, usually around 10 to 20 pounds (4-10 kg). The distance you cover may vary, but experts recommend starting with a short distance in the beginning. Which you can gradually increase according to your ability.
