Beirut. Explosions caused by pagers used by Lebanon’s Hezbollah group killed at least nine people, including a girl, and injured 2,750. The blasts occurred near Beirut’s Al-Zahraa hospital, where Civil Defense first responders rushed an injured man to the hospital. Hezbollah blamed Israel for the blasts but there was no immediate Israeli response. Israel and Hezbollah have been fighting on and off since the war on Gaza began in October.
The situation in the Gaza Strip remains dire. According to the Palestinian Education Ministry, more than 11,000 students have been killed in Israeli attacks since October 7, while a total of 41,252 people have been killed and 95,497 injured. In Israel, too, 1,139 people were killed in Hamas-led attacks since October 7, and more than 200 people have been taken captive.
The incident has once again drawn attention to the growing violence and instability in the region, with the prospects for peace appearing even bleaker.
