There has been a stir after the dead body of an adult elephant was found in the Bijrani tourist zone of the world famous Jim Corbett National Park in Uttarakhand. Investigation into the cause of the elephant’s death revealed that the elephant was being continuously chased by the tiger for the last three days, due to which it is believed that it died due to exhaustion. After this incident, the park administration has started seriously assessing the situation.
The team that went on patrol in the morning informed the park administration that the dead body of an adult elephant was lying on the jungle safari path, three kilometers away from Bijrani Guest House. As soon as the information was received, Corbett Tiger Reserve Director Saket Badola, Deputy Director Rahul Mishra and other officials reached the spot and started investigation.
The tiger gave chase and the elephant got tired and fell down.
Corbett Deputy Director Rahul Mishra said that during patrolling, the park staff noticed that a tiger was continuously chasing an elephant, which was roaming near the dead elephant for a few days. During this time, a video of the tiger was also recorded by the employees. Mishra said, “The tiger kept chasing the elephant the whole night, due to which the elephant got tired and fell down and died.”
It is being told that the age of the elephant is around 20 to 25 years. The park administration has started a thorough investigation into the incident and the post-mortem of the elephant’s carcass is being conducted. The sample will be sent to the laboratory so that the exact cause of death can be determined. Mishra also clarified that this elephant is not a victim of poaching and no signs of poaching have been found in this case.
