United Nations and PM Modi.

New York: The United Nations has also accepted that the countries of the “Global South” trust India’s approach. They believe in the words of PM Modi. This is a great achievement for India. Let us tell you that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has presented India as the voice of the “Global South”. After this statement of the United Nations, it is now clear that India has been completely successful in this. The UN ambassador has said that India’s approach towards multilateral participation is based on mutual respect and solidarity and the ‘Global South’ trusts “this approach of India” to contribute in shaping a better future.

Inga Rhonda King, Permanent Representative of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines to the United Nations, said, “Today, one of the important leaders in the ‘Global South’ is your great country, India.” Addressing an online conference organised by the Centre for Global India Insights (CGII) and India Rights Network on ‘The Future of the UN Summit: What it Means for India and the World’, King said India’s approach to multilateral engagement is based on mutual respect and solidarity. “Today, the ‘Global South’ trusts India’s vision to contribute to shaping the future,” the Caribbean country’s UN Ambassador said.

Quad and United Nations summit are important for India

The webinar comes at a time when world leaders are set to gather at the United Nations headquarters for a historic summit on September 22 and 23, followed by the annual General Assembly High-Level Week. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will attend the Quad Leaders Summit hosted by President Joe Biden in Wilmington, Delaware on September 21 and will address the United Nations Summit on September 23 after addressing a huge community event in Long Island on September 22. In this sense, both these events are very important for India.

African Union joins G-20 under the leadership of India

King said the international community needs “this kind of solidarity from you (India)”. He stressed that it was under India’s leadership that the African Union was expanded to the G-20 by including it. He said, “This is the future. India’s approach to ‘vaccine diplomacy’ during the COVID-19 pandemic – this is the way of the future. In the India United Nations Development Partnership Fund, you let the partner decide how we use the funds provided by you. This is the way of mutual respect and solidarity.” King said, “This is a new way of multilateralism in the ‘Global South’ from India’s perspective.” I am very impressed with India’s way of multilateralism.

India should have a bigger role in the United Nations

India’s former Permanent Representative to the United Nations Ambassador Ruchira Kamboj said the UN summit is being seen as a “historic moment” for multilateralism, but the real impact of its results depends on whether high ideals can be transformed into implementable commitments and whether global power will allow meaningful change. At the summit, world leaders will unanimously adopt future treaties, including a global digital agreement and a declaration on future generations. (Language)
