Who is Vivek Agnihotri?
Vivek Agnihotri is an Indian Hindi film director. 48 year old Vivek was born on 10 November 1973 in Indore. His father’s name is Prabhu Dayal Agnihotri and mother’s name is Sharda Agnihotri. Vivek married actress Pallavi Joshi in 1997. He has a daughter and a son. Vivek Agnihotri was awarded the Best Screenplay (Dialogue) at the 67th National Film Awards for his film The Tashkent Files. He was also awarded the Best Writer and Director award for ‘Buddha in a Traffic Jam’ at the Jakarta International Film Festival.
Education and career
Vivek has studied from Indian Institute of Mass Communication and then studied management from Harvard. Director Vivek Agnihotri began his career with advertising agencies, Ogilvy and McCann, and worked as a creative director for Gillette and Coca-Cola campaigns. He started working with TV serials in 1994 and was involved in their direction and production. Vivek made his debut as a director in films in 2005 with Chocolate, a remake of the 1995 Hollywood film, The Usual Suspects. The film flopped and received negative reviews. His next film came in 2007, titled Dhan Dhana Dhan Gol. The film is about a Pan-Asian football team in the UK that wins a trophy but faces discrimination on the field but the film failed to perform well at the box office.
Vivek then came up with his third film Hate Story, which received mixed reviews and had moderate collections. Buddha in a Traffic Jam and the 2016 film Junooniyat performed poorly at the box office. But Zid performed quite well despite negative reviews. The Tashkent Files – Who Killed Shastri? received negative reviews from critics, but was a sleeper box office hit and also won the National Film Award. His latest film, The Kashmir Files, performed well at the box office. The film depicts the plight of Kashmiri Pandits who were forced to leave the valley in the 1990s.
