Be careful. On Thursday, a well was found at a distance of about 200 meters from Jama Masjid in Sambhal, Uttar Pradesh. Local people claim that after taking bath in this well, people used to go to Harihar temple to worship.
A local man Yogeshwar says that the name of this well is Mrityu Koop. Its description is also found in the Puranas. It is mentioned in the history of Sambhal. This is a well built by Lord Brahma. It is one of the 19 wells built by Lord Brahma. There was water in it till about 20 years ago. People used to go to the Harihar temple to take bath and worship and offer its clean and clear water to the Lord. Our ancestors have told that there is a temple of Mahadev here. If this area is excavated then all the truth will come out.
Ved Prakash Chahal told that earlier we used to come here and bring water from the well. Although due to some circumstances and apathy, people stopped using it, but now due to the efforts of the administration and Yogi government, we express our heartfelt gratitude for the work that is being done on the revival of our heritage.
He further said that what I am saying is that this area is a religious place and it should be renovated. A tap was installed here recently, which for some reason was uprooted the next day. My point is that how did this controversial place arise inside the Hindu locality? Where did the Waqf Board come into existence at our religious place? It is known as Mahamrityunjay Kupa.
Excavation work is still going on at the spot. This well was found in Sarthal Chowki area of Sambhal Sadar. It is also called ‘well of death’. Earlier, a stepwell was found in Laxmanganj of Chandausi, the excavation of which is going on for the last five days. This stepwell is said to be centuries old.
