West Bengal: BJP's Suvendu officer claims, Hindu 'forced to escape' from Murshidabad after violence

BJP leader and Leader of Opposition in West Bengal Legislative Assembly Suvendu Adhikari on Sunday claimed that more than 400 Hindus have been forced to flee their homes. He claimed that people are facing religious harassment after the central security forces were deployed after violence in Murshidabad.

He accused the Trinamool Congress of his alleged “politics of appeasement”, which has “promoted radical elements.”

The officer wrote in a post on X, “More than 400 Hindus from Dhulian in Murshidabad were forced to flee the river and take refuge in Lalpur High School, Devanapur-Sowishbnagar, Malda,”

The officer also shared pictures and videos of people during the interview. In the video shared by the officer, a man claimed that his house was burnt, and police officials did nothing for help, just fled from the spot.

He urged the Border Security Force posted in the area as well as the district and state police to ensure safe return of people.

His post reads, “I urge the central paramilitary forces, state police and district administration posted in the district to ensure a safe return of these displaced Hindus and protect their lives from this jihadi terror. Bengal is burning. The social fabric is broken. Just, enough.”

Attacking TMC for appeasement politics, he said, “Religious harassment in Bengal is real. TMC’s politics of appeasement has promoted radical elements. Hindus are being hunted, our people are running to save their lives on their own land! The state government should be ashamed to let the law and order deteriorate in this way.”

Five companies were deployed by the Border Security Force to assist the state police in view of the violence erupted during the Waqf protests in the area.

Talking to media reporters, IG South Bengal Frontier Karni Singh Shekhawat said, “We have to work together in this situation. It was discussed only. We have sent our five companies to help the police. We have come here to help the police, not for independent action, we will work as per the demand of the state police. We hope that peace will be restored here soon.”

BSF companies arrived after the Calcutta High Court’s order of immediate deployment of central forces in the area.

The High Court has directed both the Mamta government and the Center to present a detailed report on the situation. The next hearing of the case will be on 17 April.

West Bengal Police said three people died in the violence by mob against the Waqf (Amendment) Act on Friday night in Murshidabad. Many vehicles were also set on fire, and according to the police, the situation is now under control.
