Ibrahim Yucel, a resident of Turkey, locked himself in a metal helmet to quit smoking 11 years ago. Yucel was addicted to smoking for 26 years. He handed over the key of the cage to his wife, so that he could not smoke the cigarette himself.

In 2013, a Turkish man named Ibrahim Yucel put his head in a cage to quit smoking. His wife had the only key and she opened it only for meals.
Reports suggest that Kütahya resident Yucel adopted the extreme measure after his father died from lung cancer caused by smoking. Before trying this method, he had smoked two packs of cigarettes a day for 26 years.

Yucel had been smoking two packs of cigarettes a day for more than two decades. She tried to leave several times, especially on occasions such as her children’s birthdays and her wedding anniversary.
However, every attempt was short-lived and Yucel would often return to his cigarette addiction within a few days. His Helmet Cage method, however, was widely shared in pictures and videos. But, it was not clear whether this drastic measure helped him get rid of the smoking habit forever or not.
