At that time columnist Tarak Mehta had moved from Mumbai to Ahmedabad. In the year 1997, he met Asit Modi. Both of them thought of making a serial based on the column ‘Duniya Ne Ooltah Chashmah’ and their talks continued for two years.
Actually, during that time, columnist Tarak Mehta was also in a dilemma, because his close friend Mahesh Bhai Vakil, living in Surat, was also preparing to make a serial based on the column. He had also prepared one or two episodes. The columnist organized a meeting between Mahesh Bhai Vakil and Asit Modi, in which a consensus was reached on the show ‘Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah’. This show was named so because Taarak Mehta used to observe the events happening in the country and society in a unique way.

Eventually SAB TV agreed to this serial and ‘Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah’ started in 2009. Till now more than 2200 episodes have been telecasted.
