A major railway accident was averted in Assam due to Artificial Intelligence system. In time, AI alerted the train driver and the driver stopped the train by applying emergency brakes. Due to this, a herd of hundreds of elephants was saved from colliding with the train. This incident took place on October 16 between Hawaipur and Lamskhang stations. This train was going from Guwahati to Lumding. Kamrup Express escaped the accident at around 8.30 pm. Its video has been uploaded on social media. In this, the train driver is giving information about the herd of elephants to his superior officer. In the video he is saying that there must be more than a hundred elephants.
Train driver JD Shah and his assistant Umesh Kumar were taking Kamrup Express. Just then a herd of elephants was crossing the railway track between Hawaiipur and Lamskhang. The Artificial Intelligence based Intrusion Detection System (IDS) alerted the driver and co-driver of the train. After this, both of them stopped the train by applying emergency brakes. This averted a major accident, otherwise a herd of elephants would have collided with the train. At the same time, after the elephants pass through the track, some people are seen going to the railway track and making noise.
It is noteworthy that Intrusion Detection System (IDS) based on Artificial Intelligence has been installed in this section of railway tracks. Railways got a big benefit from this and such a big accident was averted. Now East Central Railway is going to install this system in all the elephant corridors of its area. For a long time, this system has been a boon for the elephants coming on the railway tracks here. East Central Railway has saved the lives of 414 elephants in 2024 and 383 from January to October 16 this year, thanks to the AI system.
