Sahitya News Desk !!! Akhlaq Muhammad Khan ‘Shaharyar’ (English: Akhlaq Mohammed Khan ‘Shahryar’, born- 16 June 1936; death- 13 February, 2012) was a famous Urdu poet. Kunwar Akhlaq Muhammad Khan is known as ‘Shaharyar’ in the world of Urdu Shero-Sukhan. He also wrote songs for films. The famous ghazal of the hit film ‘Umrao Jaan’, which proved to be a milestone in Indian cinema, is still on the tongue of the people. Akhlaq Muhammad Khan was awarded several important honors including Jnanpith Award and Sahitya Akademi Award. His important books include ‘Darbab’s Rate is closed’, ‘Evening is going to be’, ‘Meet rahega khwab’ etc.
Introduction
Akhlaq Muhammad Khan was born in 1936 in a Muslim Rajput family in Bareilly district of Uttar Pradesh. After taking a postgraduate degree in Urdu in 1961, he started work as a lecturer of Urdu at Aligarh Muslim University in 1966. He retired from here in 1996 as the Head of the Department of Urdu.

Prize and honor
Akhlaq Muhammad Khan was awarded the 44th ‘Jnanpith Award’ for the year 2008. Shaharyar, who played an important role in the world of contemporary Urdu poetry, was awarded several awards including ‘Uttar Pradesh Urdu Academy Award’, ‘Sahitya Akademi Award’, ‘Delhi Urdu Award’ and ‘Firaq Samman’. He was the fourth litterateur of Urdu, who received the Jnanpith honor. Earlier, Firaq Gorakhpuri, Qurratul-N-Hyder and Ali Sardar Jafri were awarded the Jnanpith Award.
Death
Famous Urdu poet Akhlaq Muhammad Khan died on 13 February 2012 in Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh.
