He has inherited music since childhood. While Usha is younger than Lata Mangeshkar, Asha Bhosle, Meena Khadikar, she is elder to her brother Hridaynath Mangeshkar. Usha has created a distinct identity for herself in the field of singing. According to media reports, Usha Mangeshkar was born on 15 December 1935 in Madhya Pradesh. Usha lost her father at a very young age. When Dinanath Mangeshkar died, Usha was just 6 years old. After the untimely death of her father, Usha and her siblings had to face many problems. Lata Mangeshkar entered the world of singing. Then slowly Asha Bhosle, Meena and Usha also started singing.
Usha Mangeshkar made her debut in the Bollywood industry with the song ‘Badi Dhoom Se Meri Bhabhi Aayi’ from the 1954 film ‘Subah Ka Tara’. It was a romantic drama song. After this, in his singing career, he sang songs in many regional languages including Hindi, Marathi, Bengali, Bhojpuri, Nepali, Kannada and Assamese. But, the film ‘Jai Santoshi Maa’ changed his luck. The song ‘Main To Aarti’ from the 1975 film ‘Jai Santoshi Maa’ made Usha Mangeshkar a household name. For this he received many honors. Usha Mangeshkar also received the nomination of Filmfare Best Playback Singer Female for the songs of this film.
Usha Mangeshkar is very fond of folk music. He sang till the age of more than 60 years. In 1992, he produced the musical drama ‘Phoolvati’ for Doordarshan, the story of which was based on Baba Saheb Purandare. Apart from singing, Usha Mangeshkar is also very fond of painting. Once during a conversation she had said that if she had not been a singer, she would have done painting. Usha Mangeshkar has also organized her painting exhibitions in Mumbai several times.
