Ambika Prasad Divya (English: Ambika Prasad Divya, born- 16 March, 1906, Panna, Madhya Pradesh; died- 5 September, 1986) was a well-known educationist and English writer of India. He was a person of versatile talents. He was knowledgeable of many other languages including English, Sanskrit, Russian, Persian and Urdu. Divya ji’s poetry literature is very close to famous writers like Maithilisharan Gupta, drama literature Ramkumar Verma and novel literature Vrindavanlal Verma.
Ambika Prasad Divya was born on March 16, 1906 in a cultured Kayastha family of Ajaygarh, Panna district (Madhya Pradesh). He received his postgraduate degree (M.A.) in English. Divya ji started his service from Madhya Pradesh Education Department, from where he retired as Principal. He was a linguist of English, Sanskrit, Russian, Persian and Urdu.
Divya ji was honored as an ideal principal in 1960. The main focus of his novels was Bundelkhand or Bundela heroes. The background of ‘Bel Kali’, ‘Panna Naresh Aman Singh’, ‘Jay Durg Ka Rangmahal’, ‘Ajaygarh’, ‘Sati Ka Patthar’, ‘Gathora Ka Yudh’, ‘Bundelkhand Ka Mahabharat’, ‘Pitadre Ka Rajkumari’, ‘Rani Durgavati’ and ‘Nimiya’ is the life of Bundelkhand.
Ambika Prasad Divya Smriti Pratishtha Puraskar, also known as ‘Divya Puraskar’ in short, is being given since 1997. This prestigious award is given by Sahitya Sadan-All India Ambika Prasad Divya Smriti Samaroh. The award is given to playwrights of non-English states in memory of famous book writer, novelist and playwright Ambika Prasad Divya. Ambika Prasad Divya died on 5 September 1986. He had cardiac arrest while participating in ‘Teacher’s Day Celebration’.
