Amol Palekar (English: Amol Palekar, born: November 24, 1944, Mumbai) is a famous actor of Hindi films. After winning everyone’s hearts with his acting, nowadays he is active as a director. Amol Palekar is the first Indian actor whose debut film celebrated its silver jubilee, after which both his released films also celebrated jubilees. Amol Palekar made his debut in 1974 with the film ‘Rajnigandha’. After this, his two films ‘Chhoti Si Baat’ in 1975 and ‘Chitchor’ in 1976 were released. All three films celebrated their silver jubilee in Mumbai.
Amol Palekar started his career from Marathi stage. Successful actor and director Amol was born on November 24, 1944 in Bombay (now Mumbai) and studied at J.J. Studied from School of Art. Along with studies, he was also inclined towards theatre. Along with struggling for a career in theatre, Amol was also working as a clerk in a bank. Amol Palekar made his acting debut in 1971 with Satyadev Dubey’s Marathi film ‘Shantata Court Chalu Aahe’. The success of his first Hindi film ‘Rajnigandha’ led him to do many low-budget comedy films on similar lines. Basu Chatterjee and Hrishikesh Mukherjee’s ‘Chitchor’ (1976), ‘Chhoti Si Baat’ (1975) and ‘Golmaal’ (1979) were successful comedy films of the 70s. Amol Palekar, fit in all the roles of strong and mild-mannered, soon became a well-known name in the cinema world. Bhimsen’s ‘Gharaunda’ (1977), Shyam Benegal’s ‘Bhumika’ (1976) and Kumar Sahni’s ‘Tanrag’ (1984) reflect Amol’s multidimensional artistic image.[1]
Amol was not only a good actor but also a good director. His first film directorial debut was the Marathi language film ‘Aakreet’ (1981). He also acted in this film. Playing a mentally ill person who goes around killing was certainly a challenging role. His first directorial Hindi film was ‘Ankahi’ (1984). After this, he successfully directed critically acclaimed films like ‘Thoda Sa Rumani Ho Jaayein’ (1989), ‘Daira’ (1996) and ‘Carrie’ (2000) respectively. Along with the big screen, he also directed serials like ‘Kachchi Dhoop’ and ‘Naqab’ for the small screen. Daira, Anahata, Carry, Samantar, Paheli, Aks are seen special in every form of creativity. Amol Palekar received many awards and honors for his excellent acting and direction. These include the first National Film Award for the film ‘Daira’ (1996) and the National Award for Best Film for the film ‘Kal Ka Aadmi’ directed in the field of family upliftment. Apart from this, Amol also received the Filmfare Award for Best Actor for his role in ‘Golmaal’.[1]
