Sports News Desk !!! Balbir Singh Khullar (English: Balbir Singh Kullar, born August 8, 1942; Death- 28 February, 2020) was a former member of the Indian hockey team. He gained prestige in the Indian team as ‘Inside Forward’ and visited countries such as Belgium, England, Netherlands and West Germany. Balbir Singh Khullar was a member of the Indian team that won gold at the Bangkok Asian Games in 1966 and a bronze medal at the Olympics in Mexico in 1968.
Introduction
Balbir Singh Khullar was born on August 8, 1942 in Sansarpur village. At the age of 17, he led the India team of selected hockey to the school games as captain. After that he did not look back and made the name of Sansarpur immortal by goal through half back penalty stroke and corner in the hockey ground.
Retired as DIG
Balbir Singh ji joined the Punjab Police in 1962. In 1963, Assistant was posted on Sub Inspector. He was also the captain of the All India Police Team from 1968 to 1975. In 2001, he retired as DIG.
Part of Olympic team
Balbir Singh used to play better in the half back of Khullar Maidan. He was mastered in preventing stroke. Penalty also used to impose strokes better. The gold medal in the Bangkok Asian Games in 1966 was part of the Olympic bronze medal winning team in 1968.
Padma Shri honored
The Government of India awarded Balbir Singh Khullar in the year 1999 with the ‘Arjuna Award’ and ‘Padma Shri’ in 2009. He was also honored with the ‘Dronacharya Award’.
Death
Balbir Singh Khullar died on 28 February 2020. According to Surinder Bhapa, Joint Secretary of Surjeet Hockey Society- “Balbir Singh Khullar made his own identity by playing for the country. The name of Sansarpur illuminated”. According to Olympian Sanjeev Kumar- “Balbir Singh achieved a reputation in the Indian team as an insistence forward. Each match continued to perform better. Jalandhar has lost a great player”.
