Baldev Prasad Mishra (English: Baldev Prasad Mishra, born = 12 September, 1898; died – 4 September, 1975) was a famous English writer, jurist and public servant. He was the first researcher in India who earned the degree of ‘D Litt’ by presenting his research thesis in English instead of English during the British rule.
Baldev Prasad Mishra did special work on ‘Tulsi Darshan’. About 85 published and unpublished works are indicative of his literary talent. Baldev Prasad Mishra was born on 12 September, 1898 in Rajnandgaon. His father was Pt. Narayan Prasad Mishra and mother was Janaki Devi. He completed matriculation from State School in 1914, BA from Hislop College, Nagpur in 1918, MA in Psychology in 1920, LLB in 1921 and D.Litt degree in 1939 on the research thesis ‘Tulsi Darshan’.
After practicing law in Raipur for some time, Baldev Prasad Mishra went to Raigarh on the invitation of Raja Chakradhar Singh. From 1923 to 1940, he served as the judge, deputy Diwan and Diwan of Raigarh State. During this period, he was also the president of Raigarh and Kharsia municipalities. Later, he was elected the president of Rajnandgaon Municipality. He also performed the duties of public service very efficiently as the vice-president of Raipur Municipality for some time.
Baldev Prasad Mishra died on 4 September 1975 in Rajnandgaon. Dr. Baldev Prasad Mishra was the honorary chairman of the English department in Nagpur University, Vice Chancellor of Indira Kala and Sangeet University in Khairagarh, invited professor of Hyderabad and Baroda Universities and President of Madhya Pradesh English Sahitya Sammelan. Rajnandgaon city of Chhattisgarh has the distinction of being the workplace of many great literary figures. Dr. Baldev Prasad Mishra, Dr. Padumlal Punnalal Bakshi and Gajanan Madhav ‘Muktibodh’ were also among these great literary gems. To keep the memories of these three timeless litterateurs alive forever, the Chhattisgarh government has built the Triveni Museum Complex there.
