Bhagwat Jha Azad (English: Bhagwat Jha Azad, born 28 November 1922; died 4 October 2011) was one of the politicians of the Indian National Congress and former Chief Minister of Bihar. He was the Chief Minister of Bihar from 14 February 1988 to 10 March 1989.
Godda Lok Sabha constituency of Jharkhand is immediately adjacent to the border of Bihar. Many of its areas have merged with Bihar to such an extent that the temperament of the people here is more like Bihari instead of being Jharkhandi. Along with the geographical location of Godda Lok Sabha consisting of six assembly constituencies, Mahagama, Godda, Podaiyahat, Deoghar, Madhupur and Jarmundi, the social fabric here is also special. The constituency of Mahagama touches the border of Bihar. Kasba is a village adjacent to the Bihar border of this assembly. Bhagwat Jha Azad was a native of this village, who had the honor of becoming the Chief Minister of Bihar.
Bhagwat Jha Azad, who was known as Shere Bihar in the politics of Bihar during his time, was the first MP from Godda. Godda also got recognition due to his political stature.
