Political News Desk !! Vimal Prasad Chaliha (English: Bimala Prasad Chaliha, born 27 March, 1912, death- 25 February 1971) was the lead creative activist, freedom fighter, politician and Chief Minister of Assam.
Introduction
Vimal Prasad Chaliha, the leading creative activist and chief minister of the crisis of Assam, was born on 26 March 1912 AD. He came under the influence of Gandhiji’s Civil Disobedience Movement while studying in a college in Kolkata. He also visited the jail in 1932. Chaliha had created a new type of spinning wheel which was highly appreciated by Gandhiji. He was also related to the All India Charkha Sangh. He was under house arrest from 1942 to 1946 in the Quit India Movement.
Political understanding
When China attacked in 1962 during the Chief Ministership of Vimal Prasad Chaliha, it had a very adverse effect on Assam. He faced all these circumstances with great patience and political understanding. Chaliha was elected a member of the Assam Legislative Assembly in 1957 and became the Chief Minister of the state. He remained as Chief Minister till 1971. His chief ministerial period was very full for Assam and in a sense for the whole country. Regional parties of tribes in Assam started the armed movement for their separate state. In view of the excessive loss of public money, the state and central government accepted their demands and new states like Meghalaya, Nagaland, and Mizoram were formed by dividing Assam.
Death
Vimal Prasad Chaliha died on February 25, 1971 in Shillong due to poor health.
