Dawood Ibrahim Kaskar was born in 1955 in Mumbai. He was brought up in Dongri, a slum in central Mumbai. Dawood Ibrahim’s father was a police constable. Dawood Ibrahim was involved in theft, dacoity and fraud since childhood. In 1974, at the age of just 19, Dawood Ibrahim became close to Mumbai’s biggest don of that time, Haji Mastan. However, after this Dawood Ibrahim started a terrible gang war against Mastan and his associates.
In 1981, three assassins ambushed Dawood Ibrahim and his brother Shabbir at a gas station. Meanwhile Shabbir was killed and Dawood ran away. After a gap of three years, in 1984, Dawood killed all three murderers involved in the murder of his brother Shabbir. Mumbai Police turned Dawood against Mastan, the violence increased so much that it became difficult to handle. After this, Mastan fled to Dubai in 1984, where he lived in a bungalow called White House. Here in Mumbai, Dawood started running D Company along with Chhota Rajan.
India allowed foreign businessmen to invest in the country in 1991. During this period black marketing became obsolete. Things like Japanese TVs or Chinese radios were purchased legally. Gradually the number of ships carrying Dawood’s luggage to the throne of Mumbai reduced. In the same year there was a heavy shootout between the police and members of D Company.
After the demolition of Babri Masjid in 1993, there were 13 bomb blasts in Mumbai. About 250 people were killed in the bomb blasts. Subsequently, the FBI and Interpol put Don on their most wanted list and he had to flee to Dubai to avoid arrest. After this he took refuge in Karachi, the largest city of Pakistan.
According to the report, Dawood Ibrahim was declared a global terrorist by India and America in 2003. A bounty of $25 million was placed on his head for his alleged role in the 1993 Bombay bombings.
Pakistan’s Hafiz Saeed’s banned organization Lashkar-e-Taiba carried out the 26/11 Mumbai attacks in 2008. Terrorists carried out blasts across Mumbai, including a four-day siege of the Taj Mahal hotel. In which many civilians were killed. Esquire magazine, citing inside sources, reported that Dawood had also planned the attack.
D Company has become an international criminal organization. Apart from South Asia, D Company has also become a headache for some African countries as Dawood has invested in Boko Haram, a UN-designated terrorist organization based in north-eastern Nigeria.
